Our Story

Berta Bees is a small family-run beekeeping operation based in Northern Alberta. What started off as a summer job in honeybee research led to an unimaginable experience working for some of the most talented and successful beekeepers across the country. Now, we are so fortunate to be able to carry out our own dream of keeping healthy bees, producing quality honey, and positively contributing to Canada’s food sustainability.

We winter our bees in BC’s lower mainland where the weather is a little less harsh. In the spring, once our bees are growing and thriving again, we rent them out to pollinate fruit crops. We bring them home as soon as they are done, and they get to work making honey from the local hay crops. We sell fresh local honey, offer pollination services, and sell honey bee livestock to other beekeepers in Canada’s western provinces as well.
